Sergey is an Ohio-based registered U.S. Patent Attorney whose practice includes litigating intellectual property (IP) issues, negotiating and implementing agreements involving IP, evaluating and consulting on IP, and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Sergey has appeared before various U.S. District Courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He has represented clients (both companies and individuals) across a broad range of sectors, including authors and artists, retail, automotive, industrial equipment, instrumentation, welding, packaging, soil treatment, hunting and outdoor equipment, toys, apparel, food and beverage, forensics, analytics, security and biometrics, medical equipment, software, non-profits, consulting, and insurance.
Prior to working with Emerson Thomson Bennett, Sergey worked with a law firm in Albany, New York, and with an IP law firm in Cleveland, Ohio, in addition to interning with a federal appellate judge. Sergey also has significant experience working in industry as an electrical engineer. Sergey’s experience gives him a well-rounded perspective when advising clients on their intellectual property issues.
Sergey earned his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Cleveland State University in 2003; Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, also from Cleveland State University, in 2004; and Juris Doctorate, second in his class, from the University of Akron School of Law in 2012, where he was also on Law Review. Sergey is a member of the Kathleen M. O’Malley American Inn of Court, and he regularly gives presentations and speaks on IP issues.
